Reverend Dr. J. Derrick Cattenhead

Our Pastor

    Reverend Dr. J. Derrick Cattenhead is from Lake City, SC, grew up in the Deep River Community and graduated from Lake City High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina–Columbia, a Master of Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management, a Master of Divinity from Gammon Theological Seminary at The ITC, and a Doctor of Ministry from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

    Dr. Cattenhead has served as a mentor in various local public-school systems and other local community organizations throughout South Carolina (SC), North Carolina, and Florida. Also, he is a Veteran of the United States Navy. Also, he was initiated into the Theta Nu Chapter (University of South Carolina–Columbia) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Additionally, he served as Assistant State Director of SC Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (A-Phi-A), Incorporated, and Chaplain for Delta Kappa Lambda Chapter (Florence) of A-Phi-A, respectfully. Furthermore, he has served in various leadership capacities in several civic organizations.   

   Dr. Cattenhead has served as the Associate Pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Florence, SC, where he was historically noted as the first African-American Clergy appointed to serve at a predominately White Protestant church in Florence County. He also served respectfully as Pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Florence, SC, and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Timmonsville, SC. His home church is Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake City, SC.

    Dr. Cattenhead is married to the former Chasie Latoya McClam, his childhood sweetheart, who is a profound educator. They are shared parents of three sons, Derrick, Tyler, and Chase. He strongly advocates for the impoverished, marginalized, outreach, education, discipleship, and love. Mission – I endeavor to Inspire, Encourage, and Empower ALL people to move towards Godliness with the help of the Holy Spirit.
